Honorary Chair

The thirty-ninth President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, has been named Honorary Chair of the 2008 Adirondack Trust Allegiance Bowl, an annual charity event featuring teams from the Collegiate Sprint Football League.  Proceeds from the bowl game, to be held October 4, 2008 in Saratoga Springs, New York, will benefit youth participants of Saratoga American and National Little League baseball.

President Carter, who played intramural football while a Midshipman at Annapolis, briefly resided in the Saratoga area while training as a naval officer at the Nuclear Power Training Unit, West Milton.  He also pursued graduate studies in nuclear engineering at nearby Union College.

A recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, President Carter has actively worked to advance peace and health worldwide through The Carter Center, a nongovernmental organization he founded after leaving the White House.  He also volunteers for many organizations and brings an extraordinary record of public and community service to his new role as Honorary Chair of the Adirondack Trust Allegiance Bowl.

"I am pleased to have been asked by the organizing committee to serve as Honorary Chair of the 2008 Allegiance Bowl, " President Carter said. "I wish the competing teams well and hope the event is a resounding success," he said.

The Allegiance Bowl Committee, Inc. extends its profound gratitude to President Carter for his willingness to lend his support to the "Saratoga Sprint Football Classic."
